Autodesk Brings Its Web-Based Project Collaboration Service to Japan

Mar 04, 2002

SAN FRANCISCO and TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2002-- Expansion Provides On-Line Management Solution to the US$800 Billion Japanese Construction Market

Autodesk, Inc., (Nasdaq:ADSK) Building Collaboration Services (formerly Buzzsaw.com) today announced that Autodesk ProjectPoint, its leading project collaboration service for the building industry is now available in a Japanese language version. The introduction of ProjectPoint in Japan represents the Company's first step toward expansion efforts into international markets. Autodesk chose to start with Japan because it represents the second largest construction market in the world, with an annual spend of more than US$800 billion.

"Our strategy for ProjectPoint was to first build a strong presence in the United States and then extend the collaboration service to the global building industry," said Chris Bradshaw, vice president of Autodesk Building Collaboration Services. "The introduction of a local ProjectPoint version coupled with the announcement that two of the largest Japanese construction companies are implementing ProjectPoint, demonstrate our expansion plans and the international readiness for our service."

Because ProjectPoint is Web-enabled, the service has been available to customers globally in the English language since its inception and has already attracted international usage. Currently, about 10 percent of the building projects managed using ProjectPoint are initiated from companies outside the United States. In addition, many of the U.S.-based customers are using ProjectPoint to communicate with internationally dispersed project teams. The introduction of a Japanese language version will pave the way for an even broader global presence.

Since its introduction in 1999, ProjectPoint has been adopted by building teams throughout the United States and abroad, helping them to mitigate fragmentation issues in the building that drives up business costs. Customers that currently use ProjectPont include Degenkolb Engineers; Ellerbe Becket, Hellmuth, Hobs Reprographics; Obata & Kassabaum (HOK), Inc.; Lockwood Greene; LPA, Inc.; Montgomery Watson; PlayaTec; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM); The Walt Disney Company; Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo; and Zaha Hadid. These customers have used ProjectPoint for midsize and large projects ranging from mixed-use high rises to resorts.

Autodesk Building Collaboration Services has established an office for ProjectPoint sales, training and support in Japan. Companies can learn more about the local language version of ProjectPoint by contacting Autodesk's Japan office at 81-3-6221-1655 or e-mail bcs.japan.support@autodesk.com. Companies can also visit the product site at www.autodesk.com/collaborate.
