THE DALLES, Ore., March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- R&R Sy-TEC today announced support for Autodesk Map(R) 3D 2006 next generation design and mapping software from Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), the world's leading software and services company for the building, manufacturing, infrastructure, digital media and wireless data services fields. Autodesk Map 3D 2006 is a new way for users to create, manage and share design data and geospatial information with power and precision, ultimately resulting in more informed decisions and increased efficiency.

The Autodesk platform was chosen for the R&R Sy-TEC SQLCAD GIS solution over 10 years ago for a number of reasons, including ease-of-use and accessible development tools. With the development tools available from Autodesk, it was possible to create a solution that allows new users to quickly become productive in a GIS environment. Autodesk Map 3D 2006 enables CAD and GIS data integration by providing powerful creation and editing tools for GIS professionals and the geospatial features that engineers, mapping professionals and CAD technicians require.

The user interface enhancements in Autodesk Map 3D 2006 make it easier to build and maintain GIS data in the SQLCAD system. Additional enhanced features of Autodesk Map 3D 2006 include:

  • Directly read and write Oracle and ArcSDE
  • Improved Display Manager
  • New MapBooks

George McLean, CTO at R&R Sy-TEC notes, "The SQLCAD GIS system allows utilities to manage engineering, operations and accounting functions through one database driven system. The Autodesk platform has allowed us to build a solution that is simple to operate and maintain. The new user interface features, like heads-up design, have reduced the learning curve by consolidating the data editing functions required by the end user."

"By integrating with the latest features in Autodesk Map 3D 2006, R&R Sy-TEC SQLCAD enables our joint customers to realize high productivity gains," said Chris Bradshaw, vice president of Autodesk's Infrastructure Solutions Division. "We are excited to have the strong and immediate support of R&R Sy-TEC's SQLCAD for Autodesk Map 3D 2006."

According to R&R Sy-TEC president Karl Rozentals, "R&R Sy-TEC values its long-term relationship with Autodesk, and the numerous customers we share; representing hundreds of software license seats. We believe that a combined R&R Sy-TEC -- Autodesk solution is the key to our success in the Utility GIS market."
